Recently, some missionary friends told us about a family who has been supporting them for over 15 years. When our friends began building up their support team to head to Italy years ago, this particular family came to them. They said they wanted to give up cable TV so that they could partner with their ministry. What an amazing story and testament to what sacrificial giving can look like!
Over the last 19 months of support raising, we reflect back on some missed opportunities to really press into what faith giving can look like. Mostly because talking about money can be awkward and hard. But in reality, it shouldn’t be. Because it’s not really about the money per se. It’s about trusting God and obedience and about being part of something beyond ourselves.
John Piper says that, in regards to missions, everyone is called to be a goer, a sender, or both! We just happen to be the goers, but our support team is just as much a part of our ministry as we are. God is calling you to be a sender! And not in a burdensome way. Partnering with a missionary is a gift from the Lord. As a family we have had the blessing and privilege to support various missionaries over the years. It is an awesome thing to be part of what the Lord is doing around the globe!
It’s exciting to be at 95% of our monthly partnership needs, and 90% of our outgoing expenses. God has shown His faithfulness to us over and over again! But we still need faithful senders who are willing to partner with us monthly, quarterly, or annually. Would you consider partnering with our ministry?
Sacrificial giving looks different for everyone. What are you willing to give up for Jesus? What are you willing to sacrifice to help us share the Gospel with the people of Italy? Would you give up a luxury like cable TV (or Netflix, Hulu, etc.)? Maybe one meal out each month? Or spending less on landscaping or that remodeling project this summer? When you look back on your life, these are small things that you will never regret giving up to help share the love of Jesus with the lost.

“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
